Like the plants this site celebrates, this portal is designed to evolve. In order to evolve and support you, we've added a Contact Us link at to the top of each page. Please click it when you have a problem, a suggestion or an idea for improvement.

Here's what you can do right now:

  • Find a plant by scientific name, common name, genus or family name or any of the other 38 search criteria. Just use the Search Box at the top right of this page. Select the field(s) to search on and add a keyword or two, then click Search.
  • You can add Boolean AND clauses to your search by clicking the plus sign - this adds additional search criteria options.
  • Find images, documented true to name, of flowers and habits click on the image box to identify records with images. Your search results will display a link to the image in Morphbank. Once in Morphbank use the Simple Search feature to obtain additional images of leaves, stems and fruit.
  • Results represent Living, Dead, Herbarium, DNA, Seed or Pickled plant specimens.
  • Find a plant or group of plants with specific flower color, leaves, fruit and fall color. Again, just use the Basic Search box and select the criteria and then enter a keyword.

Helpful Hints:

  • The Help Menu offers a description of all of the search fields with examples of the data they contain and a description.
  • Spelling is important! At this time wild card keys and partial name searches are not supported.
  • The Detail Results list commercial source (if any supplied this accession) for a plant species.
  • If a Search fails (no data available), try using a different search field and/or different keywords.
  • Download data to your computer in Excel format.
  • Scientists studying climate change and impacts on wild species can find the latitude, longitude, elevation, slope, soil, habitat and biological associates from the site where a particular plant was collected.
  • Conservation status of rare and endangered plants are included in the Detail Results.
  • This application can also be used to find plants that originated from a specific continent, country, state/province, county, park or protected area.
